Literary agent for the organization reporting in.
Alias: asleepinthesun
16 days, 5 hrs, and 15 mins until the beginning of National Novel Writing Month, and preparation well underway.
Alright. Well, here we are. I am holed up in a small, warm cubby from which I can post this update, and none know of my current location. There is noise to cover my typing, and I have an excuse for being here.
I have been, for the last few days, mentally preparing myself for the insanity to come. I have been getting to know my protagonist, Aly. I have been drawing maps and shaping the universe in which Aly lives within the confines of my skull and my sketchbook. It's coming along nicely. With over two weeks still for prep work, my goal is to form Aly's family and history, and to make at least two people for her to meet, who I shall also form as fully as I can within my mind's womb before I must bring them into the harsh world of black-on-white type.
I have been collaborating with other agents not associated with the organization who are also planning to undertake this project. A localized group has been formed, with an event planned in a secure location which I cannot disclose here in order to get the project started off on the right foot. I am looking forward to it and to November 1st - I cannot wait to let Aly free and see where she takes me in the world I have made for her.
Other preparations have included posting flyers in my local area to advertise for NaNoWriMo (this task has also been undertaken by a close collaborator of mine) and to try and recruit more agents to undertake the challenge of a one month novel. I am certain that local support will be a large factor in encouraging me to complete my daily word count goals. I have also updated my profile on http://www.nanowrimo.org where you can find me under the alias listed at the head of this post. I have provided an adequate cover story and background in the required author bio section of my profile, of which I am quite proud.
A thought - I am currently reading The Powerbook by Jeanette Winterson, and the author had some interesting points to make on letting the story carry you away. I must remember to include them in a future update when her point becomes more directly relevant.
Over and out.
